Scripps Ranch is a suburb of San Diego, with a population of approximately 34,650 and is located approximately 18 minutes north of Downtown San Diego.
Miramar Reservoir is a popular destination for biking, jogging, walking and rollerblading, with a paved road of just under 5 miles which encircles the reservoir. 18 barbeques and 48 picnic tables make Miramar a perfect picnic spot.
Fishing is allowed, with opportunities to catch Florida-strain largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, sunfish and trout (stocked December-March). Limits are five trout, five bass, five catfish and 25 bluegill in aggregate, with no limit of other species. California State fishing license is required for ages 16 and older to fish. Scripps Ranch was named for newspaperman E.W. Scripps, who came to California in 1890. He built and named his home Miramar, after Archduke Maximilian’s castle in Trieste, Italy.
