Commonly referred to as RB, Rancho Bernardo is part of the City of San Diego, located along the I-15 freeway. The portion of RB to the west of I-15 has the zip code of 92127, while the eastern side is 92128. Downtown San Diego is approximately 20 minutes to the south. Escondido and Lake Hodges border on the north, Rancho Santa Fe on the west, Poway on the south and east.
First incorporated in the 1960s, this master-planned community holds several distinctions which make it special. Often referred to as a retirement community, there are two neighborhoods for residents aged 55 and over; Seven Oaks and Oaks North. Far from being a retirement community, the median age is rumored to be 45, and the majority of the neighborhoods include residents of all ages.
One of the things that sets RB apart from other areas are the community centers. If you live in Rancho Bernardo, you belong to one of the seven Community Centers: Bernardo Heights, Westwood, Swim and Tennis, Eastview, High Country West, Oaks North (website unavailable) (858) 487-0120; or Seven Oaks. Each center offers a variety of social, sports and recreational activities.
Bernardo Center Drive offers a wide assortment of restaurants, banking, financial services, real estate, escrow, insurance services, attorneys, mortgage, Vons, beauty salons and many other merchants, along with a U.S. Post Office. A San Diego County Library branch is located at 17110 Bernardo Center Drive.
Within this exquisitely picturesque community, you’ll find an abundance of golf courses and private clubs. The Rancho Bernardo Inn offers a public golf course and spa services, and the Inn itself is a renowned destination resort for business meetings and vacations.
The Bernardo Heights Country Club and The Country Club of RB are Rancho Bernardo’s private golf clubs. Oaks North public executive course, a JC Golf Course, offers 3 9-hole courses to round out Rancho Bernardo’s golf offerings.
An enormous industrial park on the west side of RB includes Sony, Cymer, Hewlett-Packard, and BAE, to name just a few.
